My rating: 4 of 5 stars
An incredibly fascinating and absorbing read! Excellent storytelling with healthy doses of humor. I learned so much about the work of midwives and the social conditions of East London in the 1950s. I never would’ve guessed how important and pivotal the role of midwives once was. Although not written by a skilled writer, the stories were so engrossing that I read it through in one sitting. After I read the book, I caught the series on Netflix and loved every minute of it. Highly recommended for fans of memoirs and history.
